Wet weather wasn’t enough to hinder Triple Eight Race Engineering’s young gun Scott Pye who persevered to claim a double victory in the Dunlop MSA Ford Championship of Great Britain at Snetterton yesterday.
The accomplished 20-year-old claimed the chequered flag in round 16 and 17 of the Championship and, with dropped scores taken into account, is now the series leader.
Despite being confronted with a wet track on opening day, Scotty drew on his fierce driving skills to see off a determined Daniel Cammish. There was no shortage of on-track battles for the driver who, in race 17, found himself wheel-to-wheel with Finnish driver Antti Buri.
Scotty, who is fast becoming the series favourite, believes his double win to be among the most memorable of his entire career.
“I’ll always remember those wins. Both races were so close but incredibly clean as well – we didn’t touch once and Antti and Daniel were very fair,” said Pye.
“It’s been an unbelievable weekend and considering dropped scores, I am now leading the championship.”
With an impressive 9 wins from his 17 starts, Triple Eight Race Engineering Australia Managing Director Roland Dane believes Scotty continues to impress everyone around him.
“Scotty just keeps delivering both on and off the track. He has worked hard to get to where he is today and this is evident through his continual success,” said Dane.
“He is driving brilliantly and we are very proud of the job he is doing in the UK. He’s an extremely promising young driver and has a great attitude to go with his top quality talent.”
Catch Scotty in action again at Brands Hatch next weekend in a prestigious support slot alongside the DTM German touring cars and the F3 Euro Series. Qualifying is scheduled for Friday (3 Sep), with rounds 18 and 19 on Saturday and the 20th race of the 2010 series on Sunday.
